Raffle for a ride

Filed under: Uncategorized —— Shalini Srinivasan @ 5:07 pm

Today was a splendid day with cars coming in plus a helicopter.
Last Friday some people got drawn out of a box and got to pick a vehicle. To get in the draw we had to put our name and class in. Raffle for a ride happens every year and is one of the highlights.

So today the people who got drawn out got to come in the car they blindly picked. It was pandemonium cars (plus a helicopter and a wheelbarrow) coming in and honking their horns. Children and teacher (plus a Principal) shouting their excitement clapping till their hand hurt.

After the lucky kids all came out waving and beaming and the cars were parked, we were allowed to go in and check out the cars. I said to Vayda and Ia “Come on lets check it out .” After we exhausted ourselves running around and going inside cars we went back to class to continue the day.

1. Did you achieve your goal this term?
Get First, Second or Third in Math-ex  = Yes I got THIRD
I learnt all my hard capital but sometime I forget them.
Get into BP challenge = No but I got into the trials
Make a great  document for the Digi-awards = No but I got halfway to finishing

2. Highlights for term 3 were:Art= Auckland skyline, Rugby world cup and Street  talk, Production.

3.Your performance in production was… Explain
The rugby opening ceremony was fun but it hurt when I had to fall and the ‘You Got Me’ dance was pretty cool as well but some people were on the wrong side which made it hard for me to find the spot I was meant to stand but other than that my timing was great and I had a lot of fun.

4.Confidence, Creativity, Respect and Time management. How did it go?
I got a bit more confident and more and more creative. I showed respect and I nearly finished everything on time.

5.In term 4 I am looking forward to more street talk and having fun. I also can’t  wait to open the time capsule.

Production

“ Wake up sleepy head it time to get ready for school or do you think you might skip today” called my mum from the kitchen. I was just going back to sleep when BEEB BEEB BEEB BEEB my alarm went off. I grind my teeth and get up, I just shut my alarm up when my brother came running in to the room snatch up the book INKDEATH (and ran out) that I was going to take to school. I jumped out of bed and shot through the doorway like a bullet. He was sitting innocently at the table like he did nothing at all.

I didn’t say anything I knew I couldn’t accuse him without evidence. I turned and went into the bathroom to do ‘The Morning Routine’. I came out and sat down for breakfast milk and weetbix was on the table at seemed as it were giving me an evil grin. I didn’t complain at breakfast I had to keep them in a good mood so that they would listen to me when I had the evidence.

It was 8:00 when I left and got in to the car. My dad put his foot on the brake and we were off. First my book stealer of a brother got dropped off and then me. I hopped down and walked through the welcoming gate of Russell Street School. I tried the door of my class but I didn’t hear the familiar clicking sound only silence greeted me. I put bag at the door and ran to the library which is where I usually take refuge after I get to school. The library as usual was open I went in, and flicked on the light, got a book and settled down and started reading. Before I knew it the bell rang and I was rushing back to class.

Next minute we had done the roll and I had grabbed my bag and got in to the bus. I stared out the window as buildings after building rushed past. I thought, “ Go away butterflies shoo stop making me feel nervous.” SCREECH  the bus had stopped “ There no going back now I thought. These are going to be one of the last practices.

I stepped through the huge doors and let everyone else lead me into my audience. I sat down I was nervous even though this was just a practice. Time dragged by as it were purposely making me feel bored and as my brother had INKDEATH I felt a bit angry as well. Finally Nick called us and we went to stand in the wings. I took my jacket of and and put on the rugby jersey. I stood in the wing and waited. Soon it was our turn it was completely mad first our timing was bad for the rugby part and when we went off and came back on this time with sparkly dresses on but everyone didn’t know which side to be on.

We went back to sit in the audience. Then Nick said, “We were going to go through it again except from the dressing rooms. “ Nick then called class by class to go to their dressing rooms. Finally we got to go into the dressing rooms. The girls were lucky they got the bigger room while the boys were forced and stuffed into the smaller one. This time, time went faster and before I knew it I was on stage doing our rugby part. When we got of I realized  that this time it was dark in the wing and I couldn’t find my dress, it made it even worse that there were other classes standing in the wings. I had to run on half way through the dance.

Home time had crept up on me and we were on the bus again. I got off and looked at Russell Street it still looked really welcoming so I went in. I looked at my watch it was
10 to 3 but by the time I got to class it was practically home time.

I walked home and only today did I realize how relaxing the view was. It felt like was walking in to my house but then I was at my speech & drama class next moment my dad was driving me to production and then I was standing in the wings with my knees knocking together with butterflies in my stomach. I went on stage first move, next move and more then off stage and back on this time with a sparkly dress on. ‘ You Got Me’  was the song that we were dancing to. Soon enough the music was slowing down and coming to an end. Next moment the whole school had gathered on stage and we were singing ‘ Kiwi Kids ‘. At the start you couldn’t really hear the music but in the middle it went up but then went down again. The song ended to great applause. I felt ecstatic and really tired at the same time.
And in the end I did get my revenge on my brother.

THE END
